In June I was doing the Presidential Traverse in the White Mountains and snapped the bottom of my Leki Makalu Ultralight Ti pole:
I looked online for a replacement pole section and couldn’t find one. On the Leki site I found the “Contact Us” link and used the online form to send this message:
On a recent hike I snapped the bottom section of one of my Makalu Ultralight Ti poles when I fell. These poles are probably close to 20 years old and I am NOT asking for a warranty replacement. Can you please let me know if I can purchase a replacement bottom pole section with the tip and how I would go about doing that?
I didn’t hear back from them, but a week later a box arrived with TWO replacement pole sections (complete with tips)! Honestly, I was blown away. With all of the poor customer service out there I just wanted to report a company that went above and beyond.

Aug 10, 2023 at 1:42 pm #3786433Ha! That’s exactly what I thought before this trip. My usual poles are GG LT4’s (I broke one of them on my first Traverse). When I did the Traverse last year I used the Leki Ti poles without a problem. What happened this time was I was stepping down and put my foot on a wobbly rock and lost my balance. I tried to swing my pole forward but it caught on a bush and snapped cleanly off.
I’m feeling I might get another 20 years out of these poles now!!!
Aug 10, 2023 at 3:51 pm #3786435Companies that have a long history generally do so for very good reason. Glad you got your poles fixed Kevin. Bet you buy Leki next time you need new poles :)
Aug 11, 2023 at 10:26 am #3786450Ironically, a buddy and I were on the Pres Trav a few summers ago. He had a new pair of Leki carbon poles. As luck would have it his pole got stuck in some goo between boulders leaving no room to wiggle it out. He gave the pole a big twist, snapping the tip off. On the way down we stopped at Dodge Lodge which has a LLBean store. Showed the broken pole to the manager. She promptly gave him a new set of poles saying Leki would replace them without question. Buddy didn’t buy the poles at LLBean! Kudos to Leki and Bean for great customer service!
