Well i guess i didnt really MAKE anything, but i think this is a neat idea.
I was trying to come up with a simple light diffuser to turn an LED light into a lantern because i don’t always enjoy having my light strapped to my face. Somebody on another forum suggested a PING PONG BALL! So brilliant…..a real “duh” moment for me.
I sold my Zebralight and i’m working on an upgrade, but thankfully the dollar store had ping pong balls AND a $1 led flashlight (batteries included) for me to test the concept. All i did was put a little dent in the ball so it sits flat on the lens (a raised bezel would make this unnecessary), then rubber band it on. The results are even better than i expected. Perfect smooth light all around, no hot spots. I only got white, i prefer white light. I bet some colored ones could be cool (or warm).
A 3 gram modification!!!! And surely a ping pong ball and a rubber band are MUG.
I took a grainy, creepy picture of my hippy voodoo skull to demonstrate the light distribution. The light is pointed straight at the ceiling and the wall is evenly lit, well past 180 degrees.
