the first time I went over Muir on the south lake north lake loop it was buried in snow for a mile and a half on either side, especially the east approach. that outlet stream in your picture was under snow. i wasn’t happy when I heard it under my feet. You can’t see the hut from below approaching from the east and I was tired from sun cups and almost wandered off into another drainage.

This was my favorite stretch of the JMT last summer and I think about it almost daily. The descent SOBO from the pass is absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait until I next have the chance to be in the area. It didn’t work out this summer although I’ll be fairly close in the basin above Lake Sabrina in a couple weeks.
