I’ve been trying to think of 5-7 day backpacking trip for my 13yr old and myself in August that would include lakes or rivers for fishing.  He absolutely loves fishing and I need to include this into the plan.  JMT is out this year as I’d prefer to avoid the snow conditions and high level water crossings.  We did this last summer and he was in heaven with his catch 70+ trout along the trail.

If anyone has some suggestions, I’d love to hear please.  I have been contemplating something on the AT or CT but we would only be able to do 10 days max but preferably 5-7.

    Thank you

    Pam

Where do you live?  Caribou Wilderness and Lassen, or Trinity Alps have lots of lakes and fishing.  Not sure how many miles you want to hike.

    Hi Paul

Most likely we would have to fly out which isn’t a problem but I need to preplan and I’m running low on time.   We can hike between 10-18 a day.  I’ll look into your suggestions!

    Thank you!

Me and my 12 year old son are planning on trying Stevens pass, WA to Stehekin, WA this August. This will be his first 100 miler. Along the way there are some great  fishing creeks such as Vista creek and some nice spots on the Suiattle River. Depending on where you access you can get to the trail via Suiattle River trail out of Sulphur Creek Campground and do a nice 50  miles. Great fly fishing on the Vista. Probably ideal for tenkara fishing as well.

This sounds great John!  I will look into it for sure…thanks so much for the suggestion.  Yes, we both do spinning and Tenkara, I think he’s missing the mountains.

    Thank you!

Pam, if you have any questions about the hike I described let me know. I took a troop of 5 scouts 11-14 yo on the 50 mile trail I describe.
