Nice pictures! Brings back good memories of a 3 day 2 night the wife and I spent on the mesa exploring. There was only one other couple there so we practically had it all to ourselves. To top it off we had a full moon and the wife swears she saw the ghost of a native American on her midnight pee- she woke me in a panic and had me up with my headlamp searching.

Pretty sure you can’t see ghosts with a headlamp. So the research shows.

Seriously, the desert is a bit haunting, but in a kind of reassuring way, if that makes any sense. I’m a complete atheist and total nonbeliever in anything supernatural; I like evidence. But you never feel alone in the desert, or the woods. I feel incredibly alone on tundra, unmoored and desperate. Different landscapes affect us differently, I guess.

I loved seeing the stars through my tent mesh or during a bathroom break at night. And camping near water, so much life there! If I were a ghost, it would be a good place to haunt people.

An excellent loop route and intro to non-corridor Grand Canyon hiking.  A bit of exposure, sections that go straight down and straight up, and awesome views.

This reports gets me excited as I’ll be moving back to AZ in a couple months.  Thanks for sharing.

Sounds like an awesome trip! I love desert hikes. How many miles was it and who guided you?

I am not 100% sure of the mileage, because I don’t use any devices to track that. But on Gaia GPS I think I found the same route. Stats acc to Gaia:

    14.8 miles

    7897 feet of elevation gain

    7891 feet of descent

Started at 7395 feet elevation, lowest point was 3678.
