Glacier – Northern Traverse/ Northern Loop

I am planning a trip to Glacier National Park from August 18-26. I didn’t get any of the advance reservation campsites, but would love to do the Northern Traverse, Northern Loop, or some variant of one of those. Does anyone (Chenault or others) have specific advice on obtaining those permits on a walk-up basis? I am fairly flexible within the August 18-26 date parameters. I have read much of the general advice that is available online, but any particular pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks!
