    Hi Guys,

I’ve snooped on BPL for a long while now. I am finally planning my own thruhike and would love some advice/comments on my gear list. I am on a budget, I have most of the gear already and would love to not buy anything if not necessary. Any obvious changes I could make?

I am going to hike the GDT (Waterton – Jasper) this summer with my autistic dog. He is a 65lbs sheppard/husky, and is fully capable of carrying his own gear and food. This is our first hike of this size, but I am an alpine climber, and quite confident in my fitness.

    Thanks in advance!

I’m not familiar with the area so cannot speak to the appropriateness of your equipment. There may be a couple of omissions such as:

    A bandana or small towel.

A length of cord if you plan on hanging your food bag.

This may be just my preference but I don’t trust silnylon bags to keep my food dry so I use a plastic bag liner as a backup barrier.

Let us know how your trip goes!
