My one and only visit to Olympic Natl Park ended in a washout. Was meant to be a 3-day loop as part of a high school graduation road trip – fair to say we had more enthusiasm than preparation. The rainforest lived up to its name, and we slogged out through a creek that was a trail the day before. Will need to get back for another attempt someday.

Living in Australia now, another place with that mix of lush, verdant forest leading to snowy alpine peaks is New Zealand – a little closer to me these days.
