<span style=”color: #000000;”>My first top quilt for my hammock. Karo design (and Chevron diagonals inspired by Tacblades). I was shooting for a 30F quilt.
Materials (from RipStopByTheRoll.com)
Shell: 0.66 membrane 10 taffeta nylon, black (inside) and hunter green (outside)
Baffles: 0.5 oz NS50 Noseeum meshNeedle: Schmetz Microtex 70/10
Thread for baffles: Gutermann Sew-all
Thread for perimeter: Gutermann Tera 80Baffle height: 1.5″
Shell( with top cord): 5.5 oz
Down in main section: 12 oz
Footbox: 11″ x 11″ (excluding hem), Weight: 1/2 oz with down
Finished Weight: 18.0 oz
Finished dimensions: 78″ x 52″ x 44″ (excluding hemmed edge)I used 850 loft goose down from a 2 lb order. I stuffed some into the end of a Christmas wrapping paper tube many times and pushed it out with a pole directly into each of the 24 chambers. Worked well.
I sewed the bottom of the quilt and added the footbox after filling the quilt with down. I thought it would be easier to add the down that way. If I did it again, I might sew the bottom of the quilt and add the footbox before adding the down to the quilt.</span>

I’m now 100% decided that I’m going with some variation on the karo for the quilt I’m building soon. I might go for that style, looks nice.

Oct 31, 2017 at 3:58 pm #3499490Just to update. The dark line is after hemming. Then, after filling with down, dimensions are smaller again. Initial fabric size is labeled “fabric edge”. A bit late, sorry.
I would not use the 0.5 noseeum again. Too stretchy and flimsy. And it was too difficult to peel the tape off.
Materials for next quilt are Argon 67 for the shell (dutchwaregear.com) and his .67 noseeum precut baffles.
Next quilt will be a bit warmer — 16 oz of down (vs 12) and 2″ baffles (vs 1.5″).
Nov 1, 2017 at 1:22 am #3499578Nice, man! So all of the chambers are connected? That certainly makes it weighing the down easier! Did you do a double fold on the edges of the foot box to hide the raw edges?
Nov 1, 2017 at 2:40 am #3499585Yes, all chambers connected. Not a particularly easy design to sew. Edges of footbox are double folded hem and sewn to inside-out quilt and so are hidden inside .
