what’s the lowest temperatures you’ve taken the ultra 3r pad and been comfortable (i.e. not feeling the cold ground)? exped seems say it’s limit is down to 20f with it’s 2.9 r-value which seems a bit optimistic. I’ve used a zlite with it’s 2.6 r-value and found just above freezing was it’s limit for me.

just wanted to survey personal experiences. I’ll likely get the 5r instead to be conservative but the weight of the 3r is tempting and might be appropriate for my 3 season setup with a conservatively rated 30 degree bag

We had an Ultra 3R duo and took it to a cold trip at around 2C (just above freezing). I normally sleep fairly warm but I felt cold through the ground. I slept with a trusty 20F EE quilt that I knew can go down way below freezing and I felt generally cold. Caveat is that it rained and the ground had a lot of moisture. So I think it’s quite optimistic, or at least rated for survival at 20F.

It works fine on warmer temp nights, so I’d say 2 season only.
