Colder temps ahead. If you need a bag liner you won’t find a better bargain.
The silk liner comes in rectangular (5.6 oz) and mummy (4.9 oz) and is supposed to add 8.5* F warmth. I’ve read that silk provides one of the highest warmth to weight ratios of any material (next to down). https://www.expedusa.com/collections/sample-sale/products/sleepwell-silk-liner
Exped claims the polyester Thermolite (10.5 oz) adds 14* F warmth. Mummy style only. https://www.expedusa.com/collections/sample-sale/products/sleepwell-thermolite-liner
Organic cotton liners also available at 33% of retail, but most backpackers would opt for the silk and polyester. https://www.expedusa.com/collections/sample-sale/products/sleepwell-organic-cotton-liner

Sep 28, 2022 at 3:13 am #3760878At this price worth experimenting with. Thanks for posting Monte. Does anyone have any insight into the thermal increases claimed?
Sep 28, 2022 at 7:05 am #3760884I’ve never used a silk liner, but do have experience with a Thermolite liner. Â I never thought it added much noticeable warmth. Â I also found it to be futzy…it is so thin that it gets wound up around your legs if you toss a bit in your bag.
For approx. the same 10 oz that Exped lists, an Alpha Direct top and bottom would add WAY more warmth albeit at a much greater cost. Â Honestly, I think a 150 or 200 weight merino base layer would be better than the Thermolite liner.
While the (sale) price might make it attractive, ultimately you get what you pay for.
Sep 28, 2022 at 9:04 am #3760889I would definitely opt for the silk over the Thermolite. A little better warmth to weight ratio. Also silk is usually a lot more expensive than synthetic.
Some years ago I had the S2S Reactor liner that weighs 8.7 oz and rated at 14* added warmth and the S2S Reactor Extreme (14 oz) that’s supposed to add 25* warmth. I found the claims on both to be WAY overrated, maybe half of what S2S states, if even that. And they’re not cheap either.
I bought a 7 oz silk liner by Thermasilk off Gearswap a couple of year ago and I find it does pretty well as a stand alone summer liner or when paired with my Montbell Breeze Dry-Tec WPB bivy for XUL missions in temps above 58* F.
Nov 3, 2022 at 7:21 pm #3763548I bought a couple of these and just received them. The quality is nice. I got the rectangular in blue and weighed in at 133g without the stuffsack.
