I was watching “Alone in the Wilderness Part 2” and saw Dick Proenneke doing what we now call freezer bag cooking (in the late 60’s or early 70’s). Is this the earliest example of this?

IMHO, ANYTHING about Dick Proenneke is automatically “awesome”!  😊

I don’t see a “ziplock” at the top, the bag has a “square” bottom.

I’m guessing that is an early freeze dried meal removed from it’s retail packaging.

(Don’t ask me how I know about  ’70s stripped  “backpacking meals”.)

Yep! It was usually referred to as “Bag cooking” or similar. The modern freezer bag didn’t exist, but turkey and oven bags sure did! And….those early Mountain House meals used…you guessed it – oven bags. They were still using those in 2003!

I ate Mountain House dinners in the 1970s.  They were okay.

    Proenneke videos are really good
