I picked up a light weight merino pull over sweater from Goodwill the other day. It had just a slit below the neck and a dress type collar. Today I made it into a 1/4 zip merino pull over. I also cut the collar down and made it a henley type.My machine was acting up and it was difficult to roll the original reinforced slit onto the zipper. But for $4.95 and 11 oz I am very happy with it. Here’s the before, during and after pictures.

    Damn, that’s good!

I keep telling myself I’ve gotta learn to sew. I love MYOG and could use it on so many things.

If you were doing something like this, would it be practical to sew a zipper in with a tight zig-zag stitch resembling a button hole and then cut the slit? Would the stiffness of the stitching be a problem?

Bill, I think your idea would work fine. This one I cut the slit down about 6″ below the original and then laid the zipper face down on the front of the shirt and ran a row of stitches close to the zipper teeth and then rolled the zipper over and stitched a second line a little father away from the zipper, Zippers are always a little tricky and spend some time thinking them thru as I have gotten one half on backwards before I realized it and had to rip all those stitches out.
