OK I need a sanity check.
Many years ago, probably like many of you, I started making my own backpacking meals, mostly because I don’t eat meat, and I do like spices (not so many options for me). I started with things from the grocery store like couscous, ramen, or instant mashed potatoes.
Then I got more sophisticated and started buying already freeze dried ingredients, and combining them to get the nutrition, taste etc, just the way I wanted it.
I just recently got an actual freeze drying machine (for another purpose primarily) but I have had some fun converting all sorts of things into a backpacking meal. It got me thinking, are there other people like me?
Would anyone else be excited about custom backpacking meals? If there was a company where you could describe your ideal meal set, calories, flavors, even recipe, and they could make it for you as freeze dried trail food? Would you pay a premium for such a thing?
