STP has an interesting down jacket – a Colombia Titanium Decompression Omniheat down jacket. Does anyone know anything more about it? They don’t list the amount of fill power but with 1000 fill power down it appears to be a premium down jacket. It also has their omni heat technology which reflects heat back and is “supposedly” 20% warmer.
I would love to get peoples thoughts on this……..Richard???

I haven’t analyzed this jacket but, the Omniheat benefit is inversely proportional to the down fill amount. If the down fill is dense enough for an minimum of five filaments between your body and the ambient conditions to intersect it, there is negligible benefit. Where Omniheat has significant benefit is where the down insulation amount is low and/or not evenly distributed.
Nov 23, 2016 at 5:39 pm #3437143Thanks Richard. I am guessing 2.5-3.5oz of down, and if it is on the top end of that it could be a steal. I already have a FF Daybreak Hoody at 9.5oz but I thought it looked interesting and some people might take a shot on it.
Nov 23, 2016 at 6:47 pm #3437154How do you know what the weight is? I have emailed columbia in the past asking for the overall weight and fill weight of one of their jackets and they declined to answer either of those questions.
Nov 23, 2016 at 6:50 pm #3437155The 9.7oz is per Sierra Trading Post.
Nov 29, 2016 at 5:19 pm #3437864The stated weight seems honest, if not overstated … 10.3oz for size XXL on my confirmed quite accurate scale
There will be an update on sizing after I receive a replacement mentioned in my later post: However, it

much smaller. Size up at least 1 size, two if you plan to layer underneath it.Dec 1, 2016 at 2:31 pm #3438165UPDATE: I should have also said that the jacket was labeled as the size I had ordered so this was NOT an STP fulfillment error.
I contacted STP and explained the sizing issue. The person I dealt with quickly confirmed my reading of the size chart and arranged for a replacement that will be measured before shipping to confirm the correct sizing. She also tossed in a minor gift card for the inconvenience.
All without me asking. Nice service.
Dec 5, 2016 at 6:11 pm #3438927Final update: The replacement order has been canceled and their listing for the product now contains the comment “runs small, order one size larger”. no
soupjacket for me, so sad:-) -
