Yeah, well I have backups back from my 5mb/sec SCSI days. But, the tape drive went bad and I cannot get at them. Replacing it means a whole lot of adapters and the tape drive itself costs 5-10 times what I paid for it, originally. Nothing takes the old tape cartridges. Even my old reel tapes are likely bad, after 30 years (they are only good for 10.) Anyway, backups are not really useful today. Everything goes on the servers which have redundant backups, digital drives, and other stuff…what is called the cloud these days. Tapes and hard rive back-ups are old and barely useful, mostly for long ago stuff that isn’t worth much.

    I sympathise.
I do an automated double backup (incremental and full) every night to a second internal gigabyte disk drive, and every few weeks I do the same to an external USB drive. The disk drive interface is likely to last quite a few years I think, and the USB interface will probably last even more. Both backups are to standard PC disk formats so they can be read by any OS.

I do NOT use a proprietary NAS or RAID drive with some unreadable format. I had a Maxtor NAS once, but when the controller went down the whole lot was lost: fat lot of use that was! I was very annoyed.

    Cheers
