I recently got this from https://bonfus.com/product/maxus-80l/
I am really liking it. I can usually fit my gear in a 48 liter backpack – but, liked the fact that it has adjustable torso and a floating hipbelt. I just tried with 28 lbs and it carries great. $400 from Italy – cheaper than Seek Outside. Of course my carries are not going to be more than 35 lbs max and most likely lesser than 25lbs 90% of the time – definitely overkill for me – but, I can fit a bear can without any issues – which was always the problem for me – like HMG 55 is great mostly – but, bear can is not that comfortable. HMG 70 is better for bear can – but the compression sucks and bag is too deep and away from your back. I find SWD backpacks to be too narrow and fitting a bear can is painful at least in the 50L Long Haul.
I have been doing frameless for the last few years – but wanted something when I do 5 days food and 5L or more of water.
As I said – I can fit my stuff in a 48L MLD Prophet – but, this one has two sideways compression straps that can make the backpack adapt to my contents easiluy and fill my contents probably 80% of the frame height.
Very good workmanship.
Good looking pack. The adjustable torso looks well done.
I have a current generation SWD Long Haul 50L with the removable hipbelt and regularly carry a BV450 – no problem.
Yeah good move. The pursuit for the smallest pack possible to meet the current trendy look can upset the balance if one’s kit is not following the same minimalist parameters, resulting in barreling, stressed seams, and a hard dense surface against the back. Many people also end up with tons of stuff hanging outside and/or bulging pockets.
How is the hip belt and straps in terms of thickness and comfortability compared to the SWD?
I would say the hip belt is comparable – the shoulder straps of the SWD are heavenly soft! Bonfus shoulder straps do the job – no complaints. The Bonfus bag will stand on its own while SWD is tapered. Both are very good bags!
Joey G – if you still an Austin resident and want to try it out – just message me and I will give you my phone number…
