Thanks for that link to Yamatomichi. I’d found and then lost that site a while back when I was investigating Alpha vests, so it was nice to rediscover it https://www.yamatomichi.com/en/products/alpha-vest/
I do see what you mean about the desert head coverings not providing that deep shade. I like that about the medieval-style hoods and they are also very aesthetically pleasing. I think that I’ll try to see if this is feasible with a lightweight UPF fabric. Sewing in some wire may give it a little structure. Attaching the hood to the brim of a baseball hat and cutting some vents at the back of the hood, may help to not catch the wind. This should be fun.
I think the Yamatomichi hood is closest to the idea, but still leaves the sides of the face too exposed.
Couple things light sun hoodies always lack -which they shouldn’t. Proper, longer, sleeve length and full draping sun protection over the face. There needs to be a solution.
This one I have from REI, does fairly well in the arm length> could be better. Is light weight and breathable, but still doesn’t drape and cover the face properly. My lips and face got tore up on this 6 day trip from the snow glare. At least I didn’t get my neck or ears burnt.
