I live in the Boulder County area of Colorado. I’m considering moving to the Rapid City area to retire and wondering if there’s ample backpacking, other than the Centennial Trail, in the area around Rapid City. I am not a thru hiker, but segment hike the CT and in other areas of the Rockies.

    Ronald,
Look at the Black Elk Wilderness Area near you and the Soldier Creek Wilderness Area adjacent to Fort Robinson SP in NW Nebraska.
The Maah Daah Hey Trail in North Dakota is a great get away.
Plenty of National Forest areas nearby to try as well.
I live in SE Nebraska and spend a good part of the summer out around Fort Robinson SP each summer. Lots of history and places to go and wander in that part of the plains.
    Steven M.
