I went to the Antarctic Peninsula the past few weeks. My favorite day was going through Lemaire Channel. The sun actually showed up in those moments, it wasn’t snowing and the wind stopped. We had Humpback Whales surfacing and penguins swimming by. It made the very long trip there and back worth it, in just a few hours time.

That must have been a great trip.  I’ve watched documentaries about Antarctic cruises – that would be pretty amazing.

Did they let you get off the ship?

Yes! If a ship has under 200 clients they can off board. We were around 128 I think? Anyhow, tight regulations and all, they can only have I think 100 on land at any time. Lots of chances!

What was the group you went with?  That sounds amazing – definitely one of my bucket list destinations.

We went with Atlas. They are a newer company, the boat we went on was new this year. It’s a very bougie ship, but we got a screaming BOGO deal our agent found. Since it had far fewer people on it, landings were easy to do (if a ship has over 200 clients, they cannot go to land). It was a 5 star floating hotel that did adventures….and being a new ship had all the latest stabilizers for the Drake crossing.
