It's been a while since I've been backpacking in the winter, but I'm tired of my old stand by–2 packets of oatmeal. I just want to open up something and eat it. No clean up. I only want to heat water for my coffee (VIA). I looked through another thread and shortening bread and chocolate with nuts and fruit seems like a good breakfast.
I get tired of bars, especially when frozen. :)
Any other ideas for a decent breakfast that doesn't require cooking and isn't hard as a rock in the morning??

I didn't even think about cooking ahead of time, but that's a great idea. I could put it in the sleeping bag with me over night to keep it warm.
Good call!
Any other ideas??
Feb 9, 2015 at 9:25 am #2172794There is so much you could be eating in morning that doesn't require cooking, nor cleanup. Since you boil water for coffee, anything FBC will work just fine. Think cheesy loaded potatoes, bacon grits, and so on. Oatmeal isn't the only thing!
Or think wraps. You can pile on many things into a tortilla!Feb 9, 2015 at 9:31 am #2172798[…]

Roger, this violates LNT principles.

Feb 9, 2015 at 2:15 pm #2172882I took the advice from someone in an earlier thread on this topic and baked up some supercharged (and oversized) oatmeal cookies for breakfast. On my last trip I had these for breakfast most of the mornings. No cook, easy, didn't get tired of them either. I modified this recipe:

Feb 24, 2015 at 1:49 pm #2177503"How about a banana? bury the peel." Please don't bury garbage anytime, anywhere. Banana peels, orange peels, uneaten food. The only uneaten food you can bury is fish bones, heads and guts, because they came from that environment and will decompose there.
If you are boiling water for coffee, put some eggs, bacon (precooked), and cheese in a baggie and float it in the boiling water. No fuss no mess no utensil to clean up.
Feb 24, 2015 at 1:51 pm #2177505That's a great idea Bob.
