How do you fold/form the bread pan corners? Do you have any pictures of the process?
Jan 26, 2015 at 7:06 pm #2168406@ David G. – First I "pre-bend" the diagonal bread-pan corners (dashed lines on the template) about 20% or so with my fingers just to get a dent going. Then I fold the three bends that form the slotted sides of the burner. Next I bend up the un-slotted ends of the burner, working the pre-bent corners to get the diagonal fold I need. When the end fold is about 70% done, I use a pair of pliers to pinch the corner tight and snug things up, before the final fold to tuck the corner away and finish the bread-pan.
Sorry, no pics.
Hope this helps, if not, let me know and I'll try for some demonstration photos.Jan 26, 2015 at 11:18 pm #2168489@Rod – Followed your directions as best I could and took a stab at making a burner tray with bread pan corners. Not too pretty on the first attempt, but it sure won't leak!
Jan 27, 2015 at 10:31 pm #2168858@ David – nailed it in one, not bad at all. Zero chance of leakage is the great thing about the bread pan. I found that I rapidly improved my folding technique, by my third tray I got good enough results to show to some other BPL'ers.
Unfortunately, after all that messing about I discovered that I mostly don't like using Esbit – just doesn't seem to be the fuel for me, YMMV.
However, I think I'll make a few more of these Legless BGETs – I'm headed to the PNW GGG coming up in June (thanks Ian), and some talk has circulated about a stove "beauty contest" happening…
Jan 28, 2015 at 8:56 am #2168912@Rod – Thanks, you are way too kind. I'm not a big Esbit fan myself because of the cost and mess, but I always make my cook kits so they can burn Esbits too for those who prefer them, and to give more fuel options in a survival/disaster scenario.
YMMV?
A stove beauty contest. I like it. Would really enjoy seeing the results of that if it happens.
Jan 29, 2015 at 8:38 am #2169350@ David – YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) is just a way to acknowledge that different backpackers can value outcomes in different ways.
I'm sure the PNW GGG will generate pictures and postings, I'll try for some shots of the stove contest if it occurs.

Apr 17, 2015 at 9:23 am #2192643Apr 17, 2015 at 9:41 am #2192652The sides of a Gram Cracker aren't a "pot support," they're there to deprive some oxygen to the Esbit tab to slow the burn. I've found they make the burn more efficient (less fuel to reach a boil, although longer time).
I can't imagine how you'd possibly support a full pot on them. You'd also smother the flame.I think these 'wings' are important, and might be worth considering before choosing a design which lacks them.
Apr 17, 2015 at 10:13 am #2192658"astranomical patience"
No, Dan, I've never seen these two words used together.

Apr 17, 2015 at 10:17 am #2192660Bob, I'm so glad to give you new experiences. :)
and by the way, astronomical is misspelled :-))))))
Apr 17, 2015 at 10:24 am #2192664Dan, I try not to make too much out of what you write.

Apr 18, 2015 at 12:16 pm #2192937I haven't lit this but it looks like it should work just fine. It'll probably start hot, since air can get under the brick before the corners burn down.
I left a lip around the edge to keep things from spilling. Further can bits could be used to make simmer/snuffer accessories.
1.3g, weeble-wobble stable :)
