See my thread in GEAR and answer here on WINTER HIKING or there on GEAR.
(Yeah, I'm taking my new Eddie Bauer "Karakoram 0" back to the store due to several design flaws.)
maybe you got your answer over on Gear? if not, very doable, the two guys that are doing the winter PCT are using that setup
as long as the total loft is up to snuff, shouldn't be a problem- I'd want my over-quilt built large enough to fully go over what I was using underneath
depending on what you're starting with, a 40 or 50 degree quilt may be more than sufficient, looking at under a pound for a down quilt in that range and now you have a warm summer quilt to boot :)
Over-quilt has worked just fine for the two of us. Helped us share warmth as well.
Cheers
I've decided I will go the over-quilt route – and with Down Tek DWR treated down if I can find a vendor with it.
I'll make a Velcro-detachable collar for the Megalite.
As a geezer I need to stay as light as possible.
are you going to make it yourself? if so, this outfit sells treated down, but they only sell it in one pound lots-more than you'll need (unless you have other projects in the hopper)
Thanks Mike,
I needed a source to make my detachable down collar for my WM Megalite bag.
