    Okay,
so I loaded a new avatar pic and it shows up in my Forum Profile now, but not in my posts.
Made the change a couple of days ago and still does not show in my posts.
    How do I do this?

    thanks,
    billy

hit F5 or click the refresh button on your browser?

I see some crude native american art?

There's a turtle and a snake being held by a human with some circles?

I've had my browser on an off several times…

both the old pic and new are Native American pictographs… but neither is 'crude' :)
the old one shows a figure with a snake, the new one snows three ghostly figures (Barrier Canyon style… two or three thousand years old)

It can take several hours to show up correctly.

    Clear your cache…

… it just "flipped" (this minute)

    It's VERY interesting ….

If I'm Not logged in I get you old avatar.
Once I do log in, I see the new one.

    Avatars

…and now a moment later, the old one is back, while I'm still logged in.

Cache would only affect what you see.

However, I am clearing my cache as well.

The new avatar only shows up when I'm in Reply mode, the first time.
After I post it flips back to the old version.

Close my browser, then open, it's the old version.
I login, post, and see the new version.

    Avatars2

I refresh and I get the old one again.

    Avatars3

    Very Interesting.

    just a guess

sometimes software updates periodically, like once a day

someone could suggest you reboot your computer? that's a good one for service people because it let's them skedaddle, and then you'll have to call back when it doesn't work but you'll get a different service person so the first service person will be off the hook : )

Just give it a bit of time and it will show up correctly. I have had it take a day.

    Hi Billy

It WILL turn up – eventually. Often the picture is cached at your ISP's machine. That is, they keep a local copy so they can feed you the page faster without having to wait for BPL to send the pic. This is helpful – except when it isn't.

I don't know what browser you are using, but with some Shift/Refresh will tell the ISP to go back to BPL to get a new copy.

Other times, it seems the 3rd party servers which host BPL take their own sweet time. We have no control over that.

    Cheers

Oh, I entirely agree, strange are the ways of computers …

You could try reloading the same (new) avatar photo just to see if you can kick the server into some action. No logic behind that at all, but sometimes …

It's 3 days short of a month now and I still don't see my new avatar on my posts… though I have seen the new avatar at my Forum Profile since about day 2 after changing… and others have said they see the new avatar on my posts…

    very strange.

Yeah, 'tis a strange thing, the BPL software. Always has been (well, for as long as I've been here anyway).

FWIW, I see your new avatar if I look at your profile, but your old avatar on all of the posts.

I would also suggest reloading the new one, sometimes that works.

    >>>suggest reloading the new one, sometimes that works.

I tried that 2 times after the original attempt, even downsizing the photo in case that was the issue, but the old one remains on my posts that I see, but hopefully the new one is seen by others. All seasonal and what-not, y'know? ;)

    .avatar anyone?

Is this the one you see?? Strange indeed, sometimes.

Interestingly enough, same with yours. I see the new one if I look at your profile, but see the old one on your posts.

BTW, how much does your pup weigh?

More importantly, what is the pup's base weight?

Clearly some BPL glitch. Maybe somebody'll take a look at it. I'm pretty dense sometimes, but my persistence usually yields the desired result.

My dog Cyrus weighs about 58 lbs. "Australian Cattle Dog Mix" the shelter called him, or Blue Heeler or some such. He was born without a tail.

Yours appears to have some German Shepherd in him (her?). Do you hike with him?

This should not count as thread drift since we're talking about avatars, right? ;)

The most he's ever carried (total, incl pack) is 8 lbs, which was food, bowl, snacks, leash (less than 1 oz) and sometimes water. Usually less.

Probably, but no real idea. Shelter had no idea either. I'm told she probably has a lot of norwegian elk hound in her.

No, she's not a hiker. She can barely walk, really. She's 16 and on a downward path these days – very little muscle left in her hind legs (she can walk but if she stands still for more than about a minute her butt just slowly sags down to the ground until she's sitting), and (minor at the moment) dementia has made it so that she's in a state of very high anxiety any time I put her in the car to go somewhere (these days only to the vet). She's a sweet girl though.

    So.
I started this thread to get help with changing my avatar.
So that I do not miss any responses I set up 'watch the thread' which sends me an email every thing there is a posting to this thread.
So now I am getting emails every time you guys post about your dogs.
Please… could you take the dog discussion to another threat???? Please?

    thanks,
    Billy

    Sorry, gone to PM.

I did try once again with the avatar change, still no luck, this time with a teensy-weensy file.
