Hi all! I've been out of the backpacking game for sometime, and generally do my outdoor activities in a pretty warm climate. I'm heading with my husband rom Florida to Patagonia next March for a 3 week adventure hiking Torres del Paine, the Fitz Roy area around Chalten, and down around Ushuaia.

Though I've backpacked in the past, living in Florida means I've pretty much shed most of my cooler weather gear – which I'm sure I'll need with the wind and temps during Patagonia fall.

Any great gear list advice from anybody who has done this trek before – specifically asking regarding apparel – I'm set for boots but need to outfit myself and my husband from baselayer to shell.

Extreme rain and wind happens pretty much year round. You'll be moving into fall so expect increasing variability in weather and generally cooler temps.

Good wind gear for both tops and bottoms and probably synthetic insulation would be a decent starting point. The weather is usually in the mid 50s and if it's windy and wet that's a prime temp to suffer hypothermia, hence a good idea to consider synthetics.

Above and to the right, under Forums, click on "Search Forums".

"Patagonia" goes in the Query box.

For In Forum, use the drop-down to find Pre-Trip Planning (the last choice).

Also, if you search on "Torres del Paine" you will avoid some of the Patagucci gear.

    Last, check out Post-Trip Reports
