So I have managed to already acquire most of this gear but was wondering if there was any way to shave weight or increase the function of the gear list through simple, light and effective means. Typically this is a 3+ season gear list as I generally sleep very warm. I am from the northeast so will typically be backpacking along the AT and in the presidential range as well as the Adirondack's. Expected temps can be as low as 15 degrees and the gear list is geared to coping with high winds and rain as well as light snow. Any feedback is very appreciated (Hopefully I did that introduction right hahaha).

Thanks!

Or I'm doing it wrong. Maybe check your link. Good luck- just trying to help.Nov 28, 2014 at 10:43 am #2152623Nov 28, 2014 at 10:44 am #2152624That's a mighty fine list! My biggest suggestion is that you add a backup firestarter—a firesteel or perhaps a mini bic. There's a long-running thread about backup firestarters over on the SUL forum, and even among SULers most people carry at least two, normally three, ways to get a flame going. Especially in the cold, wet weather you'll encounter in your area, that .9 ounces (.4 oz for a mini BIc, .5 oz for a firesteel) could save your life.
You might also consider replacing your short sleeve baselayer with a long sleeve one. Sleeves can always be rolled up, and I found that my l/s shirt with the sleeves up and chest zip down is cooler than a regular t-shirt. You might need the extra insulation because if it's getting down to 15º, you're pushing the limits of that Hadron.

If it's as low as 15 outside I would bring more then a cut Z-lite. Of course site selection can diminish the need for more, but some places up north have designated sites which are no good for natural ground insulation.
In regards to the AT, depending on the time of year I sometimes don't worry about a backup firestarter. That isn't advice of course, just how I go about things.
