hi,
I'm pretty camera dumb. I have a Sony rx100 that I love for the size, weight, sensor, etc…
But the narrow field is bugging me. Is there a wider option out there for 10 oz or less?
Doesn't need to be fisheye wide….just wider.
My canon g15 for example is wide enough.Sep 22, 2014 at 6:03 pm #2136873Actually starting to wonder if the rx100 only seems more narrow due to the cropping from the image stabilization….
But….but…I want wide AND stable!!! Cake and eat it too! ;)Sep 22, 2014 at 6:07 pm #2136874"due to the cropping from the image stabilization…."
Please explain.

Sep 22, 2014 at 6:11 pm #2136875There are some third party wide angle adapters out there for the RX100. Don't own an RX100 or any of these adapters so can't say how well/poorly this would work.
I reviewed the usual suspects, including the Ricoh GR, and it seems that they all are close to 28mm.
If you're willing to budge on the weight restriction, the NEX5 specs out at just under 11oz for the body and then you could add the 16mm lens and wide angle adapter for an extra weight penalty. Also a million other lenses you can attach with an adapter.
Lightest alternative may be to stitch your pictures together.

When I turn on image stabilization it takes off perhaps 10% around the edges. Makes sense since it needs a buffer for correction.

Sep 23, 2014 at 4:33 pm #2137078The RX 100/100 II have the same angle of view as the Canon G15, a 28mm equivalent.
In reality you can have a very small difference because those numbers are rounded off, 28mm can be 27.5 as it can be 28.5 …(28.1/28.2 and so on)
Those Sony have an optical image stabilisation so you should not see any difference having the stabiliser on and off (as far as width in the photos)
Just point your camera to a brick wall or picket fence and take a shot with the IS on and one off.
The RX III has a wider (24mm) lens.Sep 23, 2014 at 9:56 pm #2137154Sorry should have specified, the cropping only happens for image stabilization for video.
I wanna try out the rx100 3 now…Sep 23, 2014 at 11:20 pm #2137161[Relief] That makes better sense.
It seems to me that optical stabilization is a lot smarter.
