Aug 27, 2014 at 3:50 am #2130671Late Sept. In a wet year I don't think you have enough warm dry clothes as backup. I also think a Bear vault 450 will be too small for the second half of the trail. Likewise I'm not sure all resupply options will still be available that late so may be a problem first half as well.
What kind of fuel are you using? Can you share consumables list.
Aug 27, 2014 at 8:54 am #2130730Consider adding and carrying on-person:
map
compass
pealess plastic whistle
backup firestarter
emergency tinderAlso, add some duct tape, or even better, Tyvek tape to repair the DriDucks.

There must be a typo in the title because it states "Late September" when clearly you meant "Late August."
Late September is part of the "anything goes" season in the Sierra where it can be warm one day and look like xmas the next. Take the thermals, and take some extra food and gas. It's going to be beautiful and empty out there, have fun.
Aug 29, 2014 at 7:07 am #2131363Sorry, the list is vague. So my fuel will be Esbit and it will also provide emergeny tinder. Im bringing water proof matches too. I have duct tape on each trekking pole. I will be brinnging my thermal bottoms but leaning toward not taking the tops. I believe a wool t shirt, down jacket and rain jacket will provide enough warmth. I will be bringing a compass/signal mirror and map. I'm sticking with my BV450 cannister and it WILL work. Wink wink, nod nod :D I will make it to MTR by the 18th of September. MTR will be open till the 20th. So no problem there. And yes, I will be hiking in September finishing around the 28th. Thank you for explaining what I may be in for that time of year. I will add a whistle if you think it is nessesary. Ive never taken one before.
rough consumables list;
Toilet paper*
Sunscreen*
hand sanitizer*
chap stick*
*** Ive broken down how much I need per day but I dont have numbers. It will be enough. Plus Ive been using smoothe rocks and vegitation for TP where I can :[]
food 1.5 lbs day
vodka 3.2 oz per day
esbit 1/2 oz per day (one cube) = hot water for 16 oz coffee/about 12oz dinner
*trust me, my sidewinder will be that efficient. :DTahks for the feedback guys.
Aug 31, 2014 at 12:31 pm #2131751Long underwear base layer are good to change into for sleeping when your day clothes are all wet, either from sweat or rain.
Other than that use a few nights, the only other time I wore mine was for the hike up Whitney. It can be pretty cold at 4am, too strenuous for a puffy, but you need something more than just a shell. Temp was in high 20s in early august (ice on rocks near top) and the UL long johns fit the bill perfectly for the conditions. I would expect it to be quite a bit colder by end of sept., I would probably bring long underwear and a light fleece.
Sep 1, 2014 at 2:06 pm #2131983Ok sounds good. The closest thing I have to a light fleece is a capaline #3 long sleeve thermal. I will bring it for sure. Im sure with the long thermal top AND bottom I'll be bombproof! Thanks for sharing weather info !
