I should be headed to Pemi sometime early this fall. It'll get cold pretty quick up in the Whites, so my temperature range for this loadout plans for temps to dip below freezing at night.

I used the Lighterpack site so it's a bit easier to see the ratios, etc.

    Thanks for feedback!

The main thing I see that's missing is something in between running shorts and shirt and the full winter/rain gear for hiking. The microfleece or the baselayer stuff would be great at night, but I would roast with any of that stuff during the day (Sept/Oct) hiking in the White Mountains. But, if you get caught on a raw drizzly or windy day, you'll freeze in the shorts.

I would trade out one of the baselayer tops for the coolest possible long sleeve tech t shirt — something that can pass for a running shirt with the sleeves pushed up, especially since you've already got the duplication of the baselayer top and the microfleece top.

And, a glaring omission seems to be a wind jacket. The clothing I am most likely to grab on a fall hike in the Whites is a lightweight wind hoody (Houdini, Marmot Trail Wind, etc.) Just enough to break the wind. I love NeoShell, but that's way too heavy for that purpose. You'll roast if you need to wear it on the move.

Also, as much as I hate them, this would be a prime candidate for a pair of zip-off hiking pants that give you the option of shorts or long pants. You could expect some hiking temps in the 40 to 60 degree range that are a bit cool for shorts (if you catch a gray or windy day), but not cold enough for baselayer tights. Lightweight summer hiking pants seem just about perfect for fall conditions in the Whites.

Thanks for the tips. Considering adding a Rab Ventus pullover windshirt, since it fills that Tech-Wick category you mention for cooler temperatures.

I'm also going to add the ripstop nylon "Dance" pants, which can serve as a good in-between the rain pants and shorts.

Thanks very much for the comments!
