Holy crap, that is a freakin' bad-assed leopard! That was some Rambo, poppin' outta the swamp action that was!
I feel a tiny bit bad for the gator, but since their modus operandi is sneakin' around with just their eyeballs above the water and pouncing on birds and cute furry mammals when they get too near the water, including when the look cutest taking a drink, I'd also say poetic justice.
It may be just my imagination, but the gator seem to have a particularly clueless look on its "face" just before it clues in – almost like a cartoon. Weird.
The thing that always strikes me is how often these things are so minimalistic – I saw a coyote take a squirrel in almost exactly this way, from its blind side and with hardly an increase in the coyotes pulse as far as I could see, in Yosemite valley and in full view of the restaurants with outdoor benches and people. The predators have zero gloating and celebration, and after the deed is done they continue on their way as if nothing had happen at all. Seeing the leopard turn around and head back across the river with out so much as a how-de-do is to me is the most non-human part. It scary but beautiful in a weird way.
if the cat is now experiencing a serious case of "alligator's revenge"? That's some pretty nasty eatin'.
