Any advice on water (is melting necessary) for the Emmons route of Rainier in July? Looking to stay one night, maybe two nights at Schurman. If melting is necessary, how do you guys determine how much fuel you need to provide (X) liters of water.
googling "how much fuel to melt snow" will result in a number of well writtten articles on the subject. a trick to saving fuel is to put snow in a black garbage bag and leave it out in the sun. getting to camp shurman requires some glacier travel. some folks rope-up, some folks don't.
