There are different kinds of Canon shutter releases, depending on the camera model that it plugs into. You might want to state what camera model you had it plugged into. It is mostly a matter of the connector where the release plugs into the camera body.

It's the Generic Canon Shutter Release. Works on every Rebel and a few other older models.
