I'm about to sell my tent!
When and if I ever get above the tree line I may get to a point where I have to revert to the ground.
Step 1.)
Make sure that I took my trekking poles on "this" trip.
Easy enough.
Step 2.)
Make sure to have at least 6 stakes for my hex tarp.
Ditto.
Step 3.)
Have a insulating pad to sleep on.
Extra weight in addition to my UQ.
Step 4.)
Have some sort of ground cloth and bug protection.
Use Polycro and adapt my DIY hammock bug net into a "bivy".
Minimal weight gain and dual use for the net.
Anyone out there ever had to forsake hanging and go back to the ground?
Party On,
Newton ;-)
I've been thinking about this lately as well.
1. Ditto. I always bring my poles.
2. 4 stakes are packed with the hex tarp. Maybe add in two groundhogs and extra guyline as extras.
3. I've been thinking of getting a smaller "Torso only" UQ and bringing a longer foot/leg pad anyway.
4. ZPacks Poncho/Groundcloth. I wonder if Joe can make this in WPB cuben to double as a underquilt protector? Headnet (if necessary) for bugs.
I try to make sure the "foam" I use in my pack against my back is big enough to use as a sleeping pad. For naps I have a very thine piece of Tyvek. That doubles as my "doormat" giving me a place to put my feet when I'm sitting in the hammock. It triples as my groundcloth when going to ground.
If that doesn't work, I guess I'll just fuel up the ol' Edsel and get 'er on down to timberline.
