I went ahead and ordered one yesterday. Emailed a few times and true to the reputation Henry himself answered both my emails thoroughly and promptly.
I looked in to the double rainbow but after reading a lot of owner reviews and comparisons to the strat 2 decided on the strat 2.
Very excited. Can't wait to get it and bring it out to test.
So just an update.
We decided to pull the trigger on the Tarptent Stratospire 2. I ended up returning the REI QD3 – even though I liked the tent alot I just couldn't justify keeping it and not reallocating those funds to something else. So it's back at the REI in Paradise Valley AZ if anyone is looking for one!
With the funds from the QD3 return we went ahead and ordered a Snowpeak Gigapower manual stove, a Sawyer mini for each of us, and 2 sets of Black Diamond Trail back trekking poles.
FYI – Campsaver.com has 20% off on either outlet or non-outlet gear. The code for non-outlet is GIMME20. So we saved 20% on everything except the trekking poles. Amazon actually had those on sale from a vendor for $50 a set no tax and no shipping so I think that's about as good as it gets.
Thanks for all the advice on dropping the weight and getting our BW down.
I'll keep an eye out for a lighter pack for the wife, as soon as we find a good deal one of the top packs that fits her well we will get it. This should save a few POUNDS for her.
The sleeping systems will be the last to go. I think with the weather heating up here we can keep the comfy pads and find a cheap fleece quilt solution to get us through the summer. When it starts cooling off again maybe we will have some funds set aside to put towards some UL bags.
I think I'll start another thread on food for our upcoming trip. It seems that's a bit of a separate topic.
Thanks again!!
