We bought some fluorescent light protective plastic tubes at HD. Then made rod socks out of polycro using double sided tape to form the sections. One rod fits easily into the tubes.
Saved 8.125 ounces over my G Loomis East Fork tube and sock.
There are plastic/vinyl caps that are intended for chair legs that will fit the small diameter tubes. I would guess there are some that would fit the large diameter tubes as well.
The tubes come with 2 end caps, notched to fit around the electrical connector on the bulbs. I didn't use them, taped the bottom end with packing tape and left the top open. The tubes will protect a rod, but if off trail, in heavy brush, they might be too limber.
