I've put together gear for a Colorado Trail hike, with my dog Maggie, over the summer of '08. I'm going to start testing this gear in a couple of weeks. The gear list is under my profile.
I've looked at Andrew Skurka's CO trail gear list, as well as the recent forum posts of Ryan F and Doug Johnson, from which I poached some ideas. Thanks guys.
Any insight?
Thanks,
Justin
P.S. I’ve also included some reasoning behind my choice for handling drinking water:
I hate digging water bladders out of my pack two or three times a day. I also hate filling collapsible containers in a stream. I LOVE that Maggie's pack has an integrated water system which pours from the rear of her pack. This makes her the closest thing to a water cooler the CO trail will ever see. She's also carrying a filter which makes filling easier.
Maggie does listen and comes when called but will still never be off leash. This way there will be little chance of losing my dog and my water vessel. Even still, I will be carrying a backup 2L platy and some aqua mira because the first day of the trail does not allow for dogs. I will continue to carry these things just in case she does disappear.
