A couple updates….
Apropos the leaf shutter, its amazingly quiet. If stealth street photography is your thing the RX1 is a great ninja tool. If you turn the system sounds off and turn off the AF assist light, the thing is totally silent (as in, even in a quiet room its undetectable).
I wanted to touch on the accessories a little bit. So far I have bought and used the leather case, the lens hood, and the thumb grip (btw I have spoken with the awesome people over at Really Right Stuff, they are currently working on a L-Plate for the RX1 and Im trying to convince them that if they manufacture a grip it will be a big seller). Having used these accessories (i.e. case and grip) for a couple weeks I have to say that they make handling the RX1 a lot easier (esp. with gloves on). The bottom-half of the leather case gives you a little more to grab onto and the thumb grip aides in this as well.
However, they are still outrageously priced. I would suggest waiting for third-party accessories at a fraction of the cost (some are already available on eBay).
Oct 18, 2015 at 2:46 am #223263524 Mpixel? Phooey. Trivial stuff. Have a look at the Canon EOS 120M, recently displayed at the Canon Expo. 120 MPixels. Image size on disk is about 250 MBytes. Canon claimed that the new sensor is capable of capturing lettering on the side of an aircraft 18km away. Can you even see the plane at that distance? Now THAT is a camera. They also have, but did not demo, a 250 Mpixel sensor. That's 10 times bigger than the Sony one. THAT is a sensor. They also have a new lens, as sown on their 'network camera'. 'a new ultra-telephoto lens that achieves eight times the brightness of conventional lenses, making night filming possible for the first time without the need for infrared lighting.' And THAT is glass. They were also demo-ing 8k cameras. Smaller stuff, you understand. Cheers

It's not "10 times bigger", in fact, it's considerably SMALLER than the FF Sony sensor in question. With photosites that small, that sensor is going to introduce some serious noise at anything other than bright light. It's an impressive piece of [niche] tech, but doesn't make much 'obsolete'.
