When I first received this hat in '06 before a 3 day trip in the Smokies I was impressed with the build and fit. The hat is a medium, a nice tan color, has a bungee fit adjustment, removeable neck strap for windy conditions and nice wide, but not too wide brim. The weight is 2.5 oz. It breathed very well and maintained great head coverage, protecting my neck, ears and face from the sun. i used it on several day hikes as well in Northern AZ. After washing it per manufacturer's instructions though, it shrunk just enough to induce a slight pressure around my head. This made no sense since when I purchased it, I had really long hair (12"+) and it fit just fine and now I have about 2-3" worth and it should still fit but doesn't. The funny thing is that my wife has the female version of this hat in medium and it was washed together with mine and her's fits me perfectly. The hat does all OR claims it should but shrinkage shouldn't be a part of the package. I have returned it to the place of purchase and will look for another hat. A large in this one would be huge on me so it will have to be another brand. I have an OR Peruvian hat that is the same size and have never had an issue with fit.
