This bag has an Epic outer and a 0.85 inner with 2oz overfill. It weighs about 830 grams.
Two of my friends have asked me to recommend bags to them and I have recommended WM Ultralights but somehow I have ended up with this one.
This bag has about 20% less loft than the Ultralight and weighs about 100 grams more. What do you get for this weight:
1. OK, the outer is Epic, it is heavier and it does resist moisture a bit better than the WM Ultralight. I am not sure about the merits of Epic. There is no doubt it sheds water better than the lighter fabrics but perhaps the weight increase (2 ounces) would be better spent on more down in a lighter bag. Not sure on that one.
2. The lower half of the bag is wider than the Ultralight but the top is a little bit narrower. I can’t understand this. This is not a big deal but we are interested in perfection in this forum so I’d have to ask FF to look at their design. You don’t need that much room below your waist but room at the shoulders would be appreciated a little more.
– Get the loft equal to the Ultralight and I'd add half a mark.
– Fix the cut, make it narrower down the base and add width at the top and I'd add half a mark.
In summary, I'd swap it for the Ultralight anyday.
