After checking out the organic peanut butter, with oil the on top because it separates when sitting, I decided the best alternative was a jar full of calories which would stay in its original condition after abuse in a pack. Since this brand was on sale I tried it out, and because it has chunky stuff I figured the nuts in it would feed me between breaks, not be so easily digested — or, not just turn into sugary food guck.

Specs for nutritional stuff are at:

    http://www.jif.com/products/details.asp?prodID=322

Most important to me are the nutri facts which are:

    Nutrition Facts
    Serving Size 2 Tbsp. (32g)
    Calories 190
    Calories from Fat 130

    Amount/Serving %DV *
    Total Fat 16g
    Saturated Fat 3g
    Cholesterol 0mg
    Sodium 130mg
    Total Carbohydrate 7g
    Dietary Fiber 2g
    Sugars 3g
    Protein 8g

Which means I can mix and match this product with other things, like even dehydrated spuds and get the nutrient I need for at least a two week trip.

So, while I normally photo things I review this one doesn't require it … because we all know what peanut butter is and looks like.

It is a 5 because it is so easy and tastes good. I think it might even be a wound cover or serve as sun screen.

Real peanut butter does not have trans fat. And they say choosey mothers choose Jif.

I think to be consistant, one should store and eat their transfat non-ogranic peanut butter in aluminum cook and storeware. ……mmmmmm…..yummy

Not to pick on Jif since this issue applies to many other foods as well.

The current FDA (Food & Drug Administration) allows companies to list 0% Trans Fat (in the Nutrition label) if the serving size has 0.5 grams or less. Thus, you might be eating a lot of this stuff without knowing it.

The only way to know for sure is to check the ingredients list. If "partially hydrogenated" oil is listed, then the item has Trans Fats–regardless of what the Nutrition label states.
