I bought my Illusion when it came out, in 2004. For the most part, it is my winter and hauler pack when I need space.
The pack is 3500 ci, and weighs in at the advertised weight of 3 lbs 6 ounces. For the most part the pack has been great.
Pros: A lot of space and many extras that usually add weight. It's fabric helps in controlling the weight, while giving you a tough lightweight pack. Dyneema gridstop works well, and is very tough.
The pack boasts 4 side pockets, a shovel pocket on the back that is huge, and a massive lid on top with more storage space. It has a cutout for your head to lean into. It also is a hybrid loader with a "j" zipper on the main body, something that sold me on the pack, as I like panel loaders.
Cons: My one issue with the pack is how the drawstring is put in for pulling the main body close at the top. The cord lock is built into the fabric and on one of it's first trips I ripped the cordlock out. I was able to get it back in, but you have to remember to not yank on the cordlock, but instead, the cord.
While the pack can haul a lot, it isn't very comfy over 32 lbs or so. If you need to carry bulky light gear, the pack works well.
For it's price and overall construction, the pack has a permanent spot in my pack collection. For winter I love it, but overall, it carries too much for summer!
