I discovered, a week or two ago, that the past issues of the magazine were available. Ordered and received. Great. I found them at:
http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/backpacking_light_magazine_print.html
They are great (#5 was my first). Articles, as always, information and insights. BPL is consolidating the L/UL/SUL perspective into an effective community.
One of the benefits of that is the attention that will be paid to weight and quality of gear by major, mainstream, indutry giants. Another is the chance for small, start up or cottage businesses to get going that cater to the light weight packing communiity.
There is content in the first 4 issues that illuminated for me where to go, how to get there, and what to do "light" so "it" is more enjoyable and done more often.
More importantly, the earlier magazines are consitent in their iteration of the goals of BPL and definition of its purpose. It is hard to find illuminating, consistent and intellectually astute publication today in the mass media — BPL doesn't float in that common stream.
So, as a ratio or combination of performance and weight, the little BPL magazine gets a five for its back issues; as I assume it will for its future issues.
