Does anyone have any experience with the Equinox mummy bivy shown here:
    http://www.equinoxltd.com/Cart/description.php?II=8101
    From the manufacturer’s page:
…super tenacious 1.1oz ripstop…silicone impregnated bottom and water repellant breathable top…6.5oz

I was looking for some splash protection and extra warmth under a tarp. I would also like to avoid carrying a separate groundcloth if the ground is damp. It’s less than 1/3 the price of the Bozeman Vapr bivy. Is it better than 1/3 as useful for my purposes?

Reviews at backpackgeartest.org are mixed but I was looking for this site’s more discerning opinion.

    Thanks,
    Martin

A 6.5 oz. bivy for $60, you almost can’t go wrong. This bivy does not look like it has a no-see-um net incorporated in the zipper, but is stored in a no-see-um sack.

I used the original Equinox bivy for several years before I got a Vapr bivy. It’s a great bivy. I never used a ground cloth with it in 3-seasons and never had any problems. I backpack a lot in the SW desert, but also the western mountains. I used it all seasons, including snow camping. The one thing I missed with the Equinox bivy was a hood. Under a short tarp, my sleeping bag hood would get rain spattered.

I used an Exuinox Bivy for several years before replacing it. It was the older rectangular version, but a great bivy none the less. I had actually retrofitted it with a simple oversized hood (velcro attached) that eliminated the the hood spray problem except in extreme conditions, and even then it was a vast improvement. It cost me about $10 between the velcro and a yard of microlight material.

Nothing but endorsements so far. I think I’ll give it a shot. Thanks for the link to the sale.
