Having used and lived with the set-up hassle of 5 piece spin/fly rods for backpacking in the past I discovered the ease of using a telescoping rod. My setup is a light Penn spincasting reel on a Cabela's carbon fiber telescoping spinning rod.
With a telescoping rod my reel is always on it, the line is "pre-threaded" thru the line guides and you only need to extend the rod, snap the right lure on the small swivel snap and go fishin'.
Another plus with a decent telescoping rod is that there are no flat spots in the bent rod as with take-down rods. You get even flexing the entire length.
