This jacket is the single best investment I have ever made. Better than my house. Better than my several Hondas. Better than my TiVo.
It’s mado of Polartec PowerShield. This is an increadibly durable fabric with great four-way stretch. It’s lined with a lightweight fleece. It’s amazing how warm this is for it’s weight. The PowerShield doesn’t block wind as well as WindStopper but is stretchier by far and I believe is more abrasion resistant. It’s heavier than Schoeller softshells, but stretches more. It breathes very well.
The cut of this jacket is fairly slim. It has a short fitted torso for use with a harness. The napoleon style pockets are nice, and lined with fleece. It has an elastic hem cinch.
The only slight complaint I could come up with is the DWR on this fabric is not as durable as some others. The fabric can wet out rather quickly, and it does absorb a bit of water. However, I have worn this jacket while it was completely soaked, and with a proper baselayer I always stayed warm.
I’ve had it for over three years and have literally beaten the living hell out of it. In fact, it has become one of my trophy pieces. Despite the abuse it has held up amazingly well. In fact, just now I finally sent it to Arcteryx for warrantee repair (lifetime coverage!) to have some stitching repaired on the colar. I report in on how their customer service rates when I get it back.
All in all, the $240 bones I dropped on this jacket are some of the best I’ve ever spent. Highly recommended!
