I’m really hard on cameras. They get sandy, wet, banged around. I’ve gone through several. I also have an Optio WPi right now. Previously, I had a s5i, and a Konica-Minolta (not small enough). The s5i was smaller and lighter. The WPi is great for backpacking, but the problems for me are the lack of spot-metering and the glass surface protecting the lens is prone to being scratched (but I haven’t damaged it yet). The s5z takes exceptional video. It is tougher/more durable than the s5i but not as good as the WPi. All of the Optios take excellent quality photos. When I give presentations to hiking and photography groups, they always ask me what camera I used. Overall, I am very pleased with the weight, size, and photo quality of the Pentax Optio line of cameras with the s5z being my favorite.
