    @bradktn

    A friend and I have a few days off in late November, and want to plan a quick trip, somewhere driving distance from East Tennessee, to avoid, or at least minimize, hiking through areas that allow hunting.  Nothing against hunting, but the woods around here tend to get pretty full of dogs, hunters, etc.  Any suggestions for something in the Smokies, AT, or another wilderness/natural area?  Thanks

    You could try Citico Creek wilderness as it’s a bear preserve and does not allow bear hunting, and doesn’t have the onerous rules of the Smokies.

    Bald River wilderness is also a good place if you want an easy linear trip, although it does get hunters on occasion.

    Personally I go out in all the “worst” hunting places thruout the winter and never had a real problem with hunters except on occasion when their “stray, abandoned” dogs disturbed my camp and tried to steal my food.

    You might not get alot of responses here as BPL seems to be mostly an out West forum.

    Locale: Kentucky

    There are lots of fine loops in the Smokies if you don’t mind working on reserving sites.  Probably my favorite Starts at Big Creek, goes up Mount Sterling, connects to the AT via TriCorner Knob or via Gunter Fork (2 nice water falls there) and Camel Gap, continues to Cosby Knob, hits the side trail to Mt. Cammerer, and then re-connects to Big Creek.

    Other thoughts are Grayson or Roan or Linville Gorge, but I’m not sure of the hunting rules there.
