Pix from a 40-mile solo circumnavigation of the Desolation Wilderness west of Lake Tahoe, Aug 19-20, 2006, i.e., this weekend. Despite its name, this wilderness is starkly beautiful, replete with lakes nestled in granite bowls, and has several high passes that provide stunning views of its deep valleys, glittering lakes and lofty peaks.
