I am heading south on the JMT from October 10 to 22. I'll be starting at Kearsarge Pass and heading south over Whitney and then out the Portal. Does anyone know what the fishing will be like in that area at this time of year? What are the best and places and what places aren't I likely to be catching fish? PS I'll be fly fishing with a Tenkara set-up.

    Thanks for info,

    Larry

If all else fails….try guitar lake before beginning your ascent up and out. Always catch fish there; small but fun and a bunch of them.

    enjoy,

Since you are using a Tenkara setup, which is ideally suited for stream fishing, I would suggest you give any of the creeks you will be crossing a shot. Tyndall, Wright and Wallace Creeks all have a lot of fish in them. It looks like you are allowing time to sort of take it slow and easy, with adequate time for side trips. If this is the case, and the weather is stable, you might consider checking out Wright Lakes Basin and/or Wallace Lake Basin. Both have excellent fishing. Simply fish your way up the streams to the lakes. They are both beautiful places to hang out for a day or so, fishing or not. Good luck, and I hope the weather holds. You are traversing some beautiful country.
