I have a rip in my Tarptent that has expanded to a hole. It's right up where the top of the pole hits it…(In other words, it's a major stress point).
What is the best way to repair it?
I have on hand…
An air mattress repair kit, with patches and adhesive glue (doesn't say what kind of glue)
Some Seam Grip brand seam sealer.
Thanks!

The air mat adhesives are the same.Your BEST solution is to contact Tarptent and ask for their help. They are very helpful.
Cheers
Aug 1, 2010 at 2:47 pm #1633983Silicone based seam sealer, such as McNett Silnet or (what Tarptent recommends) GE Silicone Caulk diluted with mineral spirits. Don't you have some left from seam sealing your tent?
McNett makes a repair kit for silnylon with several silnylon patches and a tiny tube of Silnet. http://www.mcnett.com/SilFix-Sil-Nylon-Repair-Kit-P141.aspx
I would talk to Tarptent first, though!
Aug 1, 2010 at 3:15 pm #1633992contact Tarptent. Henry is quite helpful! Or you can use the McNett kit. I did and it works quite well
Aug 1, 2010 at 3:26 pm #1633997For a non-stress point, yeah, patch with a piece of silnylon and use McNett SilNet.
But for a stress point, I would ask Henry to repair it professionally.

* Get scrap material of the same type. He is sending me some in the mail for free.
* Get GE Silicone II sealer (or another silicone sealer) from the hardware store.
* Two patches are needed, one on each side of the hole. Glue and set one, and let it dry thoroughly before gluing the second one.
More great service from Tarptent!

Make sure that it is 100% silicone.

Mar 15, 2015 at 7:32 pm #2183000Elizabeth, how well did your 2 piece patch work out?
Mar 15, 2015 at 7:58 pm #2183009I wonder if "3 hour shower ready" is good?
Whatever they put into it to make it cure faster may make it less good for our use
Mar 16, 2015 at 12:08 am #2183050I never dilute the silicone.
It weakens the glue i think.
Use a putty knife to spread it as thin as possible.
A roller can help a good bond.
